Referring to Performance Analysis Agent Installation User Guide for PA 6.5 page 15.
It says that the installation parameters for the monitored hosts must be the same. Does the parameters include the following:
1. installation directory (is it ok to have the agent binaries installed on different directories e.g. /disk01/ for node 1 and /disk02/ for node 2?
2. agents tablespace (data and index) on the monitored host. Is it okay to have the agents tablespace on /disk01/ for node 1 and /disk02/ on node 2? Do the tablespace have to have the same name?
In RAC, we run two PA installations, each per node. The concept is to combine those installations logically so we can present it in GUI as RAC. For that, we will need the same installation content in terms of the PA application itself. If the application installation would be differently in each machine, the merging of the two nodes will fail.
To make it simple, if you install both machines accepting PA installation defaults, the RAC will show as expected in GUI. If you accept the default pyramid values in one node and change them in the other node, GUI will not show RAC as needed. It goes to the installation port used, to the dimensions used, if Repository database is a part of the installation etc. This is the content of the PA application itself.
As for the shell installation (installation directories, tablespace size etc.), those values are not taken under consideration when merging the nodes in applicative manner. Therefore, you can install PA on different directories, and use different tablespace size (as long as you have the minimum tablespace size required).
