How to run Performance Analysis for SQL Server with limited privileges?
Refer to the attached PDF file with the instructions on which privileges need to be granted to the Performance Analysis user.
Note the QuestPAPrivileges.bat file which is listed in the attached document is attached here as MinimumPrivileges.zip.
Use a UDL file to test that the proper access has been granted:
1. Create a UDL file:
a. Right-click the desktop of the client machine
b. Select New | Text Document
c. Rename "New Text Document.txt" to "PATest.udl"
2. Configure the OLE DB Provider:
a. Open PATest.udl
b. From the Provider Tab, choose either "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" or "SQL Native Client"
c. Click Next
3. Specify connection details to test:
a. From the Connection Tab
Under option 1: enter the INSTANCE name
Under option 2: choose the appropriate authentication method
i. if using Windows Authentication method, choose "Use Windows NT Integrated security"
ii. if using SQL Server user (non-NT user) authentication method, choose "Use a specific user name and password" and enter the User name and Password accordingly.Under option 3: databases in the drop-down box will be available if the connection is successful.
b. Click on Test Connection to verify.
