When attempting to open Migration Manager the following error occurs:
"Error 0xe100002c. Cannot make LDAP connection with host: ADAMservername port: 389. LDAP error 0x51. Server Down (empty)"
This error is caused by the console computer not being able to communicate with the ADAM (Active Directory Application Mode) database.
To resolve this issue navigate to the server where the ADAM database has been installed. Make sure the ADAM service is running. The service is named after the instance name of ADAM. If its service is not running start it, then restart the Migration Manager console.
If the service is running make sure that full LDAP connectivity is functioning between the console and the ADAM database. If there is no connectivity this can be caused by firewall software, or network name resolution problems etc. The Microsoft LDP.exe utility can be used to troubleshoot LDAP connectivity problems.
Refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for information on how to use the ldp.exe utility:
"Using Ldp.exe to Find Data in the Active Directory
Ldp.exe is a Windows 2000 Support Tools utility you can use to perform Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) searches against the Active Directory for specific information given search criteria. This also allows administrators to query data that would otherwise not be visible through the Administrative tools included in the product. All data that is returned in LDP queries, however, is subject to security permissions."
