How to migrate saved connections passwords from one version to another

After upgrading, how can the saved connection passwords be migrated from one install of Toad to another?

In Toad 11.5 and above, the connection information will automatically get migrated over when Toad is launched for the first time.  There is also a feature in these versions that allows users to manually migrate settings and connection information, if needed.  This feature can be found by selecting Utilities | Copy User Settings in Toad's menu bar. 

In Toad 10.0 through 11.0, if upgrading on the same PC, it will prompt users to copy 'User Files' from previous versions. If the desired version is not in the dropdown, then use the 'browse' to locate the previous Toad installation. Select the folder where 'User Files' is located. Do not drill down to the User Files to select.

The CONNECTIONPWDS.INI is encrypted for security reasons and is tied to the corresponding CONNECTIONS.INI file. Starting in Toad 10.1 it is possible to migrate saved connection passwords from one computer to another as long as it is the same OS user being used.**

Connection files CONNECTIONS.INI and CONNECTIONPWDS.INI are stored in the following folders:

Toad 9.7 and above:

Windows XP – 'C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\\User Files'

Windows 7/Vista – 'C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\\User Files'

Toad 12.6 and above:

  Windows 7/ Windows 8.x and 10 – 'C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Dell\Toad for Oracle\\User Files'

Toad 8 through 9.6:

Toad for Oracle installation directory - 'C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\User Files'

File Name(s): CONNECTIONS.INI (for version 8.x), CONNECTIONS.INI and CONNECTIONPWDS.INI (for version 9.x and above)

Locate files from original paths and migrate them to the targeted path accordingly as stated above.

*Note: In order to migrate passwords, in legacy Toad login window the Save Passwords option needs to be enable.

Keep in mind the settings files (in the User Files) for Toad 9.7, 10.x, and above may exist in different locations. Please double check where the 'User Files' folder is and know that it may not be in the exact same location between versions. There is also the option to redirect where settings are stored, but this is a user defined customization so will depend on the user. To confirm this path, open Toad and select Help | Support Bundle menu option. Locate the line stating "User Profile Directory". **Depending on what version of Toad the passwords are coming from and what version of Toad the passwords are going to, the information may or may not be carried over.
