Connections to VMware Workstation Shared hypervisor may fail with the message The specified service provider was not found
The VIX library is utilised when connecting ChangeBASE to a VMware Workstation Shared hypervisor. Installation of VMware Workstation can cause a copy of the VIX library to be installed.
Sometimes, when connecting ChangeBASE to the Shared hypervisor, it may not be able to find the objects provided by the VIX library required to make the connection. Use of particular versions of the VIX library may cause this issue.
Workaround
Download and install the latest version of the VIX library from https://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vix-api/. At the time of writing, 1.15 was the latest version. As a minimum you will need to restart the ChangeBASE service after installing VIX, however it is preferable to restart the machine running ChangeBASE if possible to ensure a cleaner initialisation of the libraries.
If a successful connection to the Shared hypervisor still cannot be performed, try installing an older version of the VIX library by following these steps:
1. Stop the ChangeBASE service.
2. Uninstall the VIX library.
3. Download and install an earlier version of the VIX library (for example V1.13 which has also been successfully tested in the ChangeBASE lab).
4. Restart the ChangeBASE service, or preferably restart the machine running ChangeBASE if possible to ensure a cleaner initialisation of the libraries.
Status
This is not a ChangeBASE defect, so no defect has been raised. This is an external library dependency issue.
