"An error occurred while trying to retrieve data to this screen" error in SQL Server log page -
Description
When attempting to browse the SQL Agent Error log the following error is thrown:
"An error occurred while trying to retrieve data to this screen. If this issue persist, contact Support"
When clicking the "More details" link in the error, the following exception is seen:
Error in getErrorLogScanList: RemoteException occurred in server thread; nested exception is: com.quest.qsi.fason.framework.connections.common.exceptions.JDBCServerException: Failed to run QUERY_ERROR_LOG_SCAN collection. Failed to execute query on instance [Hostname-Instance], user account [Domain\User01]. Reason : [[DSGi][SQLServer JDBC Driver]The DBMS returned an unspecified error. Cause
CAUSE 1
A Host OS issue has occured preventing the logs from being read. This could include:
- File corruption
- Disk or other hardware failure
- Network failure
CAUSE 2
A security configuration is preventing file access

Resolution
RESOLUTION 1
Resolve any OS, Hardware or Network to restore log file access.
RESOLUTION 2
Investigate File and Directory access rights and confirm if the monitoring account can access and read the log files, such as:
- Share Permissions
- Volume, Directory or File Permissions
- Group conflicts
- File Locking

To locate the SQL Agent Error log, execute the following query on the instance in question: USE MASTER GO EXEC msdb..sp_get_sqlagent_properties GO Note the path under the 'errorlog_file' column.
