When installing Toad, the following error may occur: "Error 1303: The installation has insufficient privileges to access this directory \\ ... \programs\Quest Software. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator. "
1. You do not have write privileges to the directory in question.
2. Windows registry entries are pointing to folders (possibly server folders) causing the installation to attempt to extract to a folder for which you have insufficient privileges.
WORKAROUND I:
Check to make sure you have admin user rights or have write-privilege to the directory in question.
WORKAROUND II:
****WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that can damage the operating system and the software installed. Quest cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.****
Perform the following to resolve this issue:
1. At the Run command type REGEDIT
2. Drill down to the following two registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Programs
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Programs
Manually change both to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs"
3. Retry installation of Toad for Oracle
