In the world of desktop delivery, organizations often have requirements that go outside the traditional one to one or many to many desktop assignment scenarios.' School systems, manufacturing floors, business centers,' etc,' under certain circumstances, want to be able to assign one user account to many VMs
Temporary Client Assignment (TCA) in vWorkspace 7.2 can be used to address this
We used to address this by implementing an undocumented feature called Demo Mode by way of a registry key change on the vWorkspace broker; with TCA we can now address this centrally through the console. By default when a user makes a connection to the RDP listener on a virtual desktop, the username will be tied to the session. Subsequent connection requests to the same desktop group by that user will be directed to the session on that virtual desktop. This behavior would cause the session to roam each time the user made the connection request from a separate terminal.
To change this behavior we can set Client Assignment, in the properties of the Desktop Group, to temporary and set the client type to Device Name or Device Address, as shown below:
This causes the vWorkspace broker to use the IP address of the client device (or the client device name if Device Name is selected) in determining which virtual desktop the connection request will be directed to. Thus, when a connection request is made from a separate terminal it will always be directed to a new virtual desktop irrespective of the user account used to log on.
