Intelligent Gatherings
With the introduction of Intelligent Source Expansion for Exchange 2007/2010, MessageStats gatherings now take into account the Exchange Server Role when determining what gatherings need to be run for a particular Exchange 2007/2010 servers. The determination of what gatherings will run is done during the execution of the task and is handled by the Task Sources gathering. The main idea is that as the task items are being looked at to determine if they need to be executed (based on whether or not that task has already run in the given UTC day) that task item is evaluated to see if the given task is applicable for the given Server's Exchange Role.
On an upgrade from a previous version of MessageStats, the Exchange Organization Structure gathering will not have run and associated all of the Server Roles to the applicable Exchange 2007/2010 servers. As such, Quest Software recommends administrators regather the structural information about their Exchange organization(s) to retrieve those server roles by selecting a connected Exchange organizations node in the console, right mouse clicking and choosing the "Regather Structure" menu option.
