How to completely uninstall GPOADmin from the environment (4296656)

To completely uninstall GPOADmin, follow the steps below:

1. Identify Configuration and Backup Stores

• Open the GPOADmin client.
• Locate and document:
  • Configuration Store location (AD, AD LDS, or SQL)
  • Backup Store location

These locations will be required for manual cleanup steps later in the process.

2. Uninstall GPOADmin Clients

• Remove all installed GPOADmin client applications from any systems.
• Note:
  • There is no centralized way to track client installations, so this must be done manually.

3. Remove GPOADmin Services (Server & Watcher)

a. Stop and Uninstall Services

• On all GPOADmin servers:
  • Stop the following services:
    • GPOADmin Server
    • GPOADmin Watcher
  • Uninstall them via Programs and Features (or uninstallers).

b. Identify Service Locations in Active Directory (if needed)

For GPOADmin version 5.16 and later, use the following LDAP query:

(&(objectClass=serviceConnectionPoint)(Name=Quest.GPOADmin.*))

• This query will return Distinguished Names (DNs) showing where GPOADmin services are registered.
• Use this information to verify all server and watcher instances have been removed.

4. Remove Backup Store

• Navigate to the previously identified Backup Store location.
• Delete all backup data manually.

5. Remove Configuration Store

Depending on the configuration type:

a. Active Directory / AD LDS

• Connect to the configuration partition.
• Navigate to:

CN=Configuration,... 
  → CN=Services 
    → CN=Quest 
      → CN=QGPM

• Delete the CN=QGPM container and all sub-objects.

• Delete the database from the SQL Server instance.

Validation

After completing the steps:

• Confirm no GPOADmin services are running.
• Verify:
  • No service connection points remain in AD.
  • No configuration objects exist under CN=Quest.
  • Backup and configuration stores have been removed.
