A critical error has occurred - 1309 ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0
Description

The Desktop Authority console will not open and displays the error message: A critical error has occurred. The Application Event Viewer may have a Warning entry Event ID 1309 - ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0
Cause

This occurs when the ASP.NET layer errors out, an update was applied or is corrupted.
Resolution

This can be resolved by reinstalling the ASP.NET installation:
For 32 bit:
"%windir% | Microsoft.NET | Framework | v2.0.50727 | aspnet_regiis.exe" -i
For 64 bit:
"%windir% | Microsoft.NET | Framework64 | v2.0.50727 | aspnet_regiis.exe" -i
