Error received when launching Toad for SQL Server:
"System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
Some or no windows may come up after launching the application.
User does not meet the minimum system requirements to launch Toad for SQL Server or there was a conflict in the install and previous versions.
RESOLUTION 1:
Please review the system and software requirements for Toad for SQL Server. It can be found in the Toad Getting Started Guide found in the Toad for SQL Server installation directory, default C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for SQL Server. Alternatively, Toad for SQL Server documentation can be downloaded from SupportLink at https://support.quest.com/searchdocumentation.aspx?pr=268441797&pv=4294947598.
1. Make sure you have:
a. Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (for Toad for SQL Server 2.0 and above) or .NET Framework 1.1 (for Toad for SQL Server 1.x).
b. Microsoft SQL Distributed Management Objects (SQL-DMO).

2. If you are running Microsoft SQL Server 2005, please try using the latest Toad for SQL Server 2.0.
RESOLUTION 2:
Please try a reinstall
Run the installer again to installing Toad into a new directory. It should prompt you to uninstall before reinstalling.
After the uninstall process:
In windows XP, go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user folder>\Local Settings\Application Data\Quest Software
In Windows 7 and later, C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Quest Software and..
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Quest Software
(these may be hidden files in Windows) and look for a Toad for SQL Server folder. Rename this to something like Toad for SQL Server Test and then try to reinstall.
When you reinstall, please do not carry over any previous setting till after you've tested the new install. Some basic saved setting should be in the folder you renamed.
