After performing an upgrade from Toad for Oracle 9.6.1 to 9.7 or after renaming the "9.7" folder to reset Toad and then connecting to one of the databases for the first time, doing a second connection on another database crashes Toad with the following error message:
Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000.
After clicking OK, Toad closes.
WORKAROUND 1:
1. Start Toad and connect to one database only
2. Fully exit Toad via File menu | Exit
3. Start Toad again and re-test the issue
WORKAROUND 2:
1. Rename file 'toad.ini' in C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\9.7\User Files
2. Launch Toad and run the setup process again - ensure "multiple Toads' is checked
3. Make one connection
4. Close Toad
5. Now relaunch Toad and try two or more connections
WORKAROUND 3:
1. Close all your Toad sessions. Open Toad.
2. Connect to one database connection.
3. Go to View | Toad Options | Startup | Check "Allow multiple copies of Toad to be loaded" | select Apply.
4. Open another Toad program session - Start | Programs | Quest Software | Toad for Oracle | Toad for Oracle 9.7.
5. On this second Toad program instance, connect to the second database.
6. Close the second Toad program instance.
7. Close the first Toad program instance.
8. Open Toad and connect to one database then to the second database using only this single Toad program instance.
STATUS:
Waiting for fix in a future release of Toad for Oracle
