InTrust releases newer than your current version may include fixed or enhanced versions of out-of-the-box configuration objects. However, for these predefined configuration objects (such as tasks, real-time monitoring rules and data sources), it is InTrust policy not to overwrite their existing versions with the updated versions during upgrade. This approach ensures that your configuration, which is likely customized, keeps working without changes during and after the upgrade, but it also means that in the usual course of an upgrade, these changed objects do not end up in your InTrust infrastructure.
If an InTrust version introduces any significant changes to such objects, the details are described in the Release Notes for that version, in the Enhancements and Resolved Issues topics. Check these topics (for all InTrust versions between your current and your target version) to find out what exactly has changed in the configuration objects. This will help you decide if you want the newer versions of specific objects.
If you have made any changes to the out-of-the box configuration objects whose upgraded versions you plan to use, back them up first by making copies of them. These backup objects will contain snapshots of your customizations.
Next, delete all of the original objects that you want to replace and commit this change.
Your next steps depend on whether your upgrade has finished. If you still have one or more InTrust servers to upgrade, then upgrade the next server as you have planned. During the installation, setup will create all missing predefined configuration objects.
If all of your InTrust servers are already up to date but using old configuration objects, then reinstall the Knowledge Packs that contain the objects you want. If you aren't sure which Knowledge Packs to reinstall for those objects, check the Release Notes. If that information isn't there, contact Quest Support.
Note that Windows auditing and real-time monitoring configuration objects are bundled with InTrust Server instead of being provided in a separate Knowledge Pack. For these objects, on any of your InTrust servers, perform the Repair action of InTrust setup.
Whether you reinstall Knowledge Packs or repair your InTrust Server installation or do both, this will deploy up-to-date versions of all missing predefined configuration objects in your InTrust organization.
Important: If you have installed any hotfixes or updates, then you need to take a few extra actions:
It is a recommended best practice that you use copies of InTrust configuration objects in your workflow instead of the originals. If this is the case in your environment, you can later replace your working copies with upgraded variants at your own pace.
If your workflow was based on the original objects, you need to reconfigure the upgraded objects based on the settings of your backup objects to restore your InTrust activity.
Note that interruptions in InTrust operations are inevitable until the reconfiguration is complete.
