During an Active Directory migration, is there anything that will be installed upon the domain controllers?
The following information assumes that passwords are being synchronized, and that sidhistory is being migrated.
The AePAgent service is installed. This is a service used for password migration. It is installed both to source and target Domain Controllers if password migration/sync is selected. There is second such service - AelAgent. It is used for SIDHistory population. It's installed on target DC only. Both services are automatically uninstalled each time when a migration session is finished or sync job is stopped.
They are installing using RPC.
Here is a listing of the files that are used:
AelAgent will be installed only on target DC:
%systemroot%\system32\AelAgentMS.exe (AelAgentMS64.exe on 64-bit DC)
%systemroot%\system32\AelAgentMS.cnt
And AePAgent:
%systemroot%\Aelita\AePAgent\PwdHlp.dll (PwdHlp64.dll on 64-bit DC)
%systemroot%\Aelita\AePAgent\AePAgent.exe (AePAgent64.exe on 64-bit DC)
%systemroot%\Aelita\AePAgent\AePAgent.log
%systemroot%\Aelita\AePAgent\PwdHlp.log
