Toad is occasionally crashing with a Windows error "Not enough storage is available to process this command." See screen shot
This randomly happens while using TOAD to browse the database. It can happen while actively using TOAD or may happen while working in another application with TOAD sitting idle in the background.
Once the error occurs, the only way to overcome the error is to restart the PC.
The following sites indicate that the issue involves a few things:
http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2010/11/windows-7-and-not-enough-storage-is.html
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177078
a. The issue is related to some obscure registry key called IRPStackSize
c. Though the issue is seen in XP, it carries over to Windows 7
d. It is related to Anti-Virus which can decrease your IRPStackSize
e. One of the causes of the issue seems to be accessing a network printer
(Note: Toad.elf error log may indicate access to a network printer. For example, you might see access to hpmdp111.dll, which is a Hewlett-Packard Universal Print Driver for Windows)
WORKAROUND – Check the existence or value of IRPStackSize
1. Please backup your registry
2. Click Start, in the "Start Search" field type in "regedit," and then click OK
3. Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
4. In the right pane, double-click the IRPStackSize value
5. Microsoft says to increase the value by 3 but another site said 5 - you can try either
6. Close the Registry Editor
7. Restart the computer
NOTE: If the IRPStackSize value does not already exist, use the following procedure to create it:
a. In the Parameters folder of the registry, right-click the right pane
b. Point to New, and then click DWord Value
c. Type IRPStackSize
(IMPORTANT: Type "IRPStackSize" exactly as it is displayed because the value name is case-sensitive.)
d. Double click on IRPStackSize that you just created and change the Base to decimal
e. In the Value Data box, type in 20 as a value - the default is 15
f. Close the Registry Editor
g. Restart the computer
If the problem persists after you complete the preceding procedure, try to increase the value of IRPStackSize even more. The maximum value for Windows 2000 is 50.
