Available is a source domain A and an existing Exchange organization A2.
Goal is to migrate mailboxes to another Exchange organization B2 but to allow the source users from domain A to use these new (migrated) mailboxes.
Can this be done using QMM?
User accounts need to be migrated from source domain A to the target domain B with an option "Disable target accounts". After this has been performed and users have been migrated these target (disabled) users will get mail enabled, mailboxes will be created and then mail data can be migrated. Source accounts will be able to access the target mailboxes as Associated External Accounts, this is a valid scenario and is supported by Microsoft. Below is an excerpt from "QMM Best Practices" form the part "Exchange Migration":
"Overview
In multi-forest Active Directory deployments, users from several forests might have mailboxes in one Exchange organization. This deployment type is sometimes referred to as Exchange Resource Forest or Multiple Forests/Single Org. The main characteristic of such deployments is that users have mailboxes that are not in the forest in which they get authenticated. Thus, security directory is separate from the Exchange directory. Migration Manager supports migration and deployment of such configurations. The product will migrate the Exchange org in such a way that users get switched to the new messaging system while remaining in their existing forest from a security perspective."
