Quest Migration Manager Free/Busy synchronization will function as designed if a Public Folder Store has been configured on the source and target Exchange organizations. Starting with Exchange 2007, Microsoft introduced the Availability Service to update and query free/busy information.
The Availability service is used to perform the following tasks: 1. Retrieve current free/busy information for Exchange 2010 mailboxes 2. Retrieve current free/busy information from other Exchange 2010 organizations 3. Retrieve published free/busy information from public folders for Exchange 2003/2007 servers 4. View attendee working hours 6. Show meeting time suggestions
Outlook 2003 , by default, uses the Schedule + Free/Busy in the System Public Folder.
Outlook 2007 can be configured to use either Schedule + Free/Busy in the System Public Folder or the Availability Service to update and query free busy information.
OWA and Outlook 2010, by design, can only use the Availability Service. The -AccessMethod:PublicFolder cmdlet will not alter the behavior of OWA and Outlook 2010, this is by Microsoft Design.
The UseLegacyFB registry value can be used to configure Outlook 2007 to use Public Folders to query and publish free/busy information instead of the Availability service.
Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar
Name: UseLegacyFB
Type: DWORD Value: 1
To query and/or publish free/busy information from OWA and Outlook 2010 clients, Calendar synchronization must be configured.
