What type of address should you use when configuring Foglight agents; Numeric IP address, FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name), or NetBIOS? Do all three types work?
WORKAROUND:
FQDN is generally recommended, but all three can work. FQDN is recommended as it provides the most robust method for addressing the systems, especially if network changes need to be made (such as change in IP, relocation to different network/subnet), as well as working well in wide area networks.
Numeric IP addresses also work well, but in the event of a network relocation or change would probably require reconfiguration. The benefit of using a numeric IP address is that name resolution issues can be eliminated.
Finally, NetBIOS names are generally not recommended because name resolution may not work well, especially in routed networks (including wide area networks).
Please be sure to consult with your network administrator to determine the method that is appropriate for your environment. Additionally, consistency in your addressing is also recommended.
