Unpacked backups are used to provide quick access to the contents of the backup for restore purposes. You can safely remove the unpacked components as the backup will be unpacked again if you choose it during an Online Restore. Unpacked backups can be removed automatically based on what you have configured in the RMAD console:
The Unpacked Backups settings mentioned above are global settings inherited by all Collections, however they can be overridden at the Collection level. There is an Unpacked Backups tab found in the Properties for each collection.
You can manually remove the unpacked components from the RMAD console (do not delete the actual files or folders):
You can delete the actual backups (.bkf files) for your DCs if you decide you do not need all of the current backups that you have. Please note, once the backup is deleted there is no way to recover it and no way to restore AD objects to the state they were, in the deleted backup. To manually delete the backup (.bkf) files:
You can also select the retention period for the backups for each collection so RMAD will automatically remove backups older then the setting you specify:
