In the past, when Toad has crashed, the next time it is launched it would display a recovery window, where I could retrieve any documents I was working on during the crash. This does not happen any longer.
A bug in Toad prevents the recovery window from appearing if, at one time, all the documents were "removed" when the recovery window appeared.
RESOLUTION #1:
If the editor is not open long enough to be backed up prior to a crash happening, then the recovery window will not display the next time Toad is launched. By default, the editor is set to be backed up every 3 minutes. This can be changed by using the "Backup editor every x minutes" option under Editor | Behavior in Toad Options.
RESOLUTION #2:
WORKAROUND:
1) Close Toad
2) Locate and delete the ~EditorBackupsPrompted.txt file, located in User Files folder.
In version 9.6 and before, the User Files folder is in the C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle directory, by default.
In version 9.7 and after, the User Files folder is in the C:\Documents and Settings\<Profile_Name>\Application Data\Quest Software\Toad for Oracle\9.7 directory.
STATUS:
This issue is fixed in Toad for Oracle 11.0 This version can be downloaded at https://support.quest.com/softwaredownloads.aspx?pr=268435520.
A way to get around this in the future, if you want to remove all documents, is to remove all except one and hit OK. Then you can just close the tab it opens the recovered document in. This will allow Toad to automatically show you the recovered documents the next time it crashes.
