User noticed unusual load time in Toad start up.
Generally this issue is system related but really big TNSNAMES.ora files with a lot of entries can cause launching Toad to slow as Toad has to load all the TNS entries. Can also be cause if SAVEDSQL.xml file is too big.
Here are a few suggestions to improved Toad's startup time if you cannot do anything about your system.
1. Clean up the TNSNAMES.ora file. If there are unnecessary entries, remove them.
2. Go to View | Toad Options and uncheck the following.
- Show splash screen
- Play Toad wave file
3. Check to see if the SavedSql.xml file, located in the Toad for Oracle\User Files directory, is really big. This can be tested by closing Toad, renaming the SavedSql.xml file to SavedSql.xml.old, and then launching Toad again.
4. Make sure that there are not any printers installed (especially the default printer) which are not quickly accessible. Toad could take forever to start up because it's trying to communicate with a printer that the machine does not have access to.
