SYMPTOM

The Legal Notice continues to be displayed on client workstations

CAUSE

The Legal Notice element was deleted, instead of the element being configured to clear the settings. 

Note: The Legal Notice is nothing more than 2 registry values located in:

 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

RESOLUTION

Set the option on the Legal Notice object to “Clear Legal Notice” or manually clear the legal notice through the registry:

Go to Start – Run – type in Regedit

1. Navigate to the "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" key.
   
2. Delete the text data in the "LegalNoticeCaption" and the "LegalNoticeText" registry values.
