While using an import file containing a list of users located in different OUs in the source, is it possible to migrate them to different OUs in the target?
The following aproach can be utilized:
I. CREATING IMPORT FILE
1. Create a new migration job and only go as far as selecting the Source objects.
2. Select the very top level in the source domain.
Tip: When right clicking and choosing "Select" on the OU it will then mark only this OU without any sub-containers and other objects. This is useful if not all sub-containers need to be included.
3. Select Export and make sure distinguishedName attribute is selected. When the window "Export Selection to File" opens just select browse and save it.
4. Select Cancel and exit the migration job.
5. Open the exported file in either Excel or some other program so you can sort the items in it. Ensure it has "distinguishedName" in the header.
6. You can further edit this list to keep only those OUs and objects you want to be migrate. Once finished save the file as a text file.
Note: Other means can also be used to obtain the required import file.
II. CONFIGURING THE SESSION - SINGLE OU
There is a group of users to be migrated from OU Test. Please create single import file as follows:
distinguishedName
OU=Test,DC=sourcedomain,DC=com
CN=User1,OU=Test,DC=sourcedomain,DC=com
CN=User2,OU=Test,DC=sourcedomain,DC=com
1. Create a new migration job.
2. Specify an import file.
3. Continue selecting the target root. Make sure the option: "Migrate selected objects with their OUs to the selected target OU" is selected.
4. Continue with the rest of the migration options.
The migration will run and create the new OU in the target and the user accounts will be populated in the new OU.
Note: It is also possible to specify users and OUs import files separately - in this case you must select the users import file first and then the OUs import file second. Selecting the OUs file first and then the user accounts import file will created the user accounts in the root of the target.
III. CONFIGURING THE SESSION - MULTIPLE OUs
Source Domain
OUs
Test
Test1
Users in OU Test
User1
User2
Users in OU Test1
User1-1
User1-2
You want only User1 and User 1-1 objects to go to the following locations in the target:
Target Domain
OUs
Test
Test1
User to OU Test in target
User1
User to OU Test1 in target
User1-1
In this case, using the previous information, all that is needed is to make sure the import file looks as follows:
distinguishedName
OU=Test,DC=sourcedomain,DC=com
OU=Test1,DC=sourcedomain,DC=com
CN=User1,OU=Test,DC=sourcedomain,DC=com
CN=User1-1,OU=Test1,DC=sourcedomain,DC=com
The tool will mirror the source domain relative user-OU structure to the target. QMM cannot re-direct user accounts to other OUs using an import file.
Import files should end with a carriage return as the last entry. Please put a carriage return (hit enter) so that a CR is the last thing in the file.
