When trying to backup a DC with RMAD, you receive the following error:
Failed to back up DIT Database
NTBACKUP is also unable to backup the System State.
This can occur due to corruption with the AD structure on a single DC.
Follow the steps on this MS KB article to diagnose the problem:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258062/en-us
N.B. Most issues with DIT database corruption occur on Step 12.
Once complete, you should be able to backup with RMAD.
