SQL Server agent using PI Blocking history fires alarm below threshold -
Description
There are two alarms fired in the SQL PI Blocking History panel for SQL Server, one each for the child / blocked sessions. The alarm counts the blocked time for all of the blocked sessions.
For example
- Lock A for 1100 sec
- Lock B for 2000 sec
With around 1011 seconds, alarm is being triggered where the actual threshold is set at 1800 seconds.

Resolution
If there are two locks at the same sample (or more)- Lock A for 1100 sec
- Lock B for 2000 sec
The alarm severity will be calculated according to the highest lock duration.For lock A the user will get a critical alarm although the lock duration is less than the critical threshold.In general, the lock time is for the blocking session and the object – not for each blocked session individually.
