Support for gMSA with the SQL PI repository -
Description
Support for gMSA connections to the SQL Server PI repository was added beginning with the 6.1 versions and higher of Foglight. How can gMSA authentication be used with the SQL PI repository? -
Resolution
To use gMSA authentication for connections to the PI repository, select Local Users in the Authentication drop-down. This requires that your FMS and Agent Manager are configured to run as a Windows Service logged on with the gMSA account. The gMSA account requires access to the SQL instance.
Configure the gMSA account via Databases Global VIew → Manage SQL PI Repositories- Show the associated user/account
- Add an option to select Local user
Configure the gMSA account:- Add monitoring → Monitoring Extension → SQLPI popup
- Add an option to select Local user
Databases Global VIew → Administration → Configure SQL Performance Investigator- Add an option to select Local user
Global View → Monitor SQL Server → check SQLPI- Add an option to select Local user
NOTE: gMSA authentication is not support when the FMS, FglAM, or SQL Server is running on a non-Windows machine. The Local User option will not be available as an option for authentication in this configuration.
