Peak is the maximum Usage of metrics during a time period.
To zoom/narrow in for data collections in Explore vcenter/storage explorer, open the graph, hold ctrl key and highlight the area to zoom in.
Frequency of data folding depends on the frequency of the collection type. To answer your question, data folding starts as soon as the collection is completed (i.e. everyday).
Foglight keeps data as long as the object (any) that we have already collected from exists in target Foglight will keep it. If it is removed and no longer exist, we will keep it up to 30 days (retention policy) These could be adjusted.
These are some of the observation metrics: Start Time, End Time, Sampled Period, Count, Min, Max, Average, Sum, Sum Squares, Standard Deviation
The lowest level of time window to corelate data in Foglight is one hour.
To verify these data collections in Foglight
- For Storage: Under Admin tab, it will show you when was the last Topology and Performance collections took place. Users can also take a look at the metrics collected and graphs populated for each object under Monitoring tab
- For VMware: Under Admin tab, you will see Metrics History table. It will show you the collections. Users can also take a look at the metrics metrics collected and graphs populated for each vCenter object.
Data granularity for Vcenter & Storage in Foglight Evolve
The Foglight VMware Cartridge monitors the health of vCenter by tracking resource consumption such as CPU, network and memory consumption for vCenter, datacenter, cluster, datasotre, esx host, resource pool, virtual machines and the vSwitch.
The Foglight Storage cartridge monitors the performance of your storage infrastructure that is critical to maximize your VM performance. It shows you how physical storage components (arrays, LUNS, switches and filers) impacting VMs by allowing you to look beyond the logical datastores and volumes.
The list is huge when it comes to granularity. Users can take a look at the following files to see the detailed data metrics
