The short answer to this question is yes, you must use the license wizard and GUI installer. However, there is a caveat to this.
If you are trying to license a copy of our server product(s) on a machine that does not have a GUI interface, then there is a workaround to the issue. In order to do this we first need to run the installer and license wizard on a machine that a has a graphics context. Any machine will do. The server views license is not validated on installation but only upon use. Once we have installed the product and run the License Wizard, then we can simply move the .jar/.war and .licenses files, via file
transfer, to the machine without a GUI. As long as the product is used on the machine it is licensed for there is no problem with this approach.
If you already have a version of a server product installed on a machine without a GUI and you need to update the license, it can be done manually. First, run the license wizard on a machine with a GUI in order to create a .licenses file. Using this .licenses file, replace all instances of the .licenses file on the headless machine. (To do so simply delete the old .licenses file from each JClass .jar, .war or file location and replace it with the new .licenses file.) For more information on where the
.licenses file is installed, please see Solution 4902:
