Affected NV Version: 8.0 Update 2
OS Version: Windows 2003 SP2
Plug-in version: n/a
Application version: n/a
Description: Problems installing NV 8 update 2 on Windows 2003 client.
Symptoms: When attempting to install Netvault 8.0 Update 2 on a Windows 2003 SP2 machine it would appear to complete the install and prompt you with a dialog box from Windows to close the install "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program". NVPMGR
The install directories are all intact, Registry entries in tact, but the Nvconfigurator was missing tabs and the services would not start.
We found that recent Microsoft updates for data protection were in place. We did the following steps to correct the situation.
1) Turned off Data Execution Prevention in Windows. To do this, I set the boot flag /NoExecute=AlwaysOff in the C:\boot.ini (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352)
2) We removed the Bakbone software, cleaning out the Bakbone folders and settings from both C:\Program Files and the Windows registry
3) We ran the install once again. A message popped up about postinstall.sh failing (you may or may not see this message). When going to Services, the NetVault Process Manager was not started. When told to start, it started.
And the Client installation is intact. Stop/start of services work repeatedly. And backups of this client were able to be created and run successfully.
