The following information is from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5883406
Since the release of 10.4.10, there are a number of issues that have surfaced with writing to tape and disk devices. For this reason, 10.4.10 is not compatible with tape devices connected to Mac OS X 10.4.10 via SCSI, FireWire, USB, SAS, or Fibre-Channel.
Other problems with XRAID, Xsan, and other disk devices communicating over these channels may also be realized.
