Description:
Unable to restore SQL Server data - "Cannot apply the backup on device .. " error.


Symptoms:
When restoring from a series of Full and Incremental SQL Server backups, an error such as the following occurs and the restore fails :
Cannot apply the backup on device 'BAKBONExxxx' to database ' '

The restore sequence has to occur in the same order as the backups occurred. Ensure that every backup is being restored, in the correct order, and do not perform database recovery until restoration of the final backup has completed.

Check for the possibility of a backup being performed with an application or utility other than NetVault, for example a SQL Server dump to binary file. If such a backup was performed, ensure that it is restored at the correct time during the restoration sequence. It may be a requirement to restore several NetVault backups, a backup taken with another application or utility, and then further NetVault backups. Database recovery must not be performed until after the final restore in the sequence has completed.
