VMware file level backups fail to backup Data through a reparse point -unable to browse backup co (4046721)

Symptoms:

If a VMWare Guest OS has an extra disk added to it but instead of mounting it as a drive letter it was mounted as a folder within another drive as a reparse point .
And the vm-system is backed up using the VMware plugin in file level backup mode.

The backup completes with no errors or warnings

When attempting to restore the reparse point folder holding the additional disk. This is listed as empty within the NetVault restore window.





Cause:

Product limitation VMware API does not have the ablity at the moment to let us does this type of backup.

Install a netvault client on the VM-system guest os and set a backup job using the standard file system plugin to include the reparse point directory

Or alternatively mount the disk as drive letter instead of a reparse point
and then create a backup to point to target the new drive letter
