Overwriting a Symbolic Link during Restore when the Target File in place Causes Data in Target Fi (4046350)

Description:

If a restore job restores a Windows symbolic link (file, created using mklink not Windows shortcut), where the symbolic link file already exists on the target file system and the data file the symbolic link targets also already exists. The data in the targeted data file will be lost.

Users should take care when restoring symbolic links. Ensure that data files targeted by symbolic links are included in backups.

Also delete existing symbolic links which will be restored, from the target file system which will be restored to, before running a restore job. Consider completing a backup of possibly at risk data files before running the restore job to ensure there is no risk of data loss
