Application Information - Active Directory and System State
Symptoms:
System State backups on Windows 2008 Domain Controllers running NV8.2.0, fail on backing up
the Active directory part of the System State, if the Active Directory Database and log files are installed on
other drives than C:\.
The log would show the following messages or warnings:
Warning 2010/03/23 17:15:39 4539 Data Plugin DC1 Failed to take a VSS snapshot for the active directory backup
or
Error 2010/03/01 11:55:39 1793 Data Plugin DC1 Failed to create VSS snapshot
Error 2010/03/01 11:55:39 1793 Data Plugin DC1 An error occurred when processing the final tree of items to backup
Severe Error 2010/03/01 11:55:39 1793 Data Plugin DC1 Failed to prepare the selection tree and backup options
Error 2010/03/01 11:55:39 1793 Jobs netvault1 Fatal error: Backup failed
File System trace from the client show:

Option 1-
Upgrade to 8.5 will fix this issue
Option 2-
If upgrading is not an option, move the NTDS files (database and logs) back to the OS partition C:\, so NV8.2.0 Build 23 can back them up.
To move the NTDS files, use NTDSUTIL http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc816720(WS.10).aspx

Option 3-
If moving the NTDS files is not an option, use 'Windows Backup Server' to perform you System State Backups.
Perform windows system state backups to disk which NetVault will be able to backup afterwards.
