Affected Product & Version - NetVault: Backup ALL
Affected Module & Version - File System ALL versions
OS Version - ALL
Application Information - N/A
Description:
This article describes the situation whereby relocating files for restore to another machine other than the source machine, produces a 42-byte overhead per file on the destination system.
Symptoms:
NetVault appears to be adding a 42-byte additional metadata information on files that are:
- relocated from the source system
- restored to another machine
This has been reported on all Plateforms and all NetVault version, only when the source server's File System Version is different from the target server's File System plugin version.
Since the receiving system has a different File System plugin, the files cannot simply be restored to their exact original state. The integrity of the files is not a problem but this could severely impact the destination system in terms of storage availability or occuppancy. In the event of limited space on the destination AND numerous files being restored, the receiving system disk could be filled and result in lack of space on this machine.
- On the NetVault Server go to Backup > 2xclick the source Server (Backed up) > right click on File System plugin > Select About and make note of the File System plugin version
- repeat the above process for the Destination client.
- If they are different, please make sure you upgrade the File System of the receiving client to reflect the
source File system version.
Note: This information can also be gathered by the examining the logs which show the plugin version used at the submission of any job.
- Finally the procedure to update the Files System plugin is as follows:
Remove the destination FS plugin:
1. Go to Client Manager and right click on client
2. Select "Remove Software"
3. Highlight "File System" then select "Remove"
Install the same FS Plugin as the source machine downloaded from our website:
1. Go to Client Manager and right click on client
2. Select "Install Software"
3. Browse to directory where the .npk have been saved during the download
4. Select OK
Running the job again under these condition, will result in a succesful restore with no file overhead.
