NVBU 8.5.2
Plugin: VMware 2.0.513
Symptom:
Some customers may notice slow image level backup of VMware Virtual Machines since they have started using the Netvault VMware plugin 2.0.513
Explanation:
Due to JIRA VMW-203, VMW-213, VMW-216 the snapshots created by Netvault VMware plugin are not deleted from the datastore.
Although the VMware snapshot manager does not report/show such snapshots they do exist in the datastore.
Some users may not notice this until they realise that the backups are slow.
In VMware, if a user manually creates snapshot(s) and delete it/them later on, the changes are committed to original vmdk file, the snapshot is deleted and snapshot database is cleanup.
However, NV VMware plugin snapshots (using the VADP protocol) can corrupt the snapshot database. As a result, we accumulate snapshots, overall performance of VM is affected, the backup of that VM is slow, the datastore is filled up.
