Description: How to perform a restore of a SAP file to a new location with the BACKINT plugin

To restore to a different machine - (available for backint plugin V4 only)
- The target Client machine must be running the same operating system as the machine on which the
original backup was made from.
- The target Client machine must be running the same version of the SAP Backint R/3 APM as was used with the
backup


Procedure:

In the event that data is to be restored to a different directory structure than the original
target, this new directory location is to be specified within the backint in_file.
This is suplied to the backint command using the “-i ” argument.

the format of the infile content should be as follows -




e.g. to restore a datafile from unix machine to a windows machine using a different file system structure
location.

1223 /opt/oracle/oradata/TABLSPACE1.DBF D:\oracle\data\

NB.
There must be 1 entry per file to be restored and relocated.
The orginal file name will preserved as there is no file rename function within the backint SAP specification
Files may be relocated but they cannot be renamed.

the basic backint command to run this operation from one machine to another is


backint -f restore -i

to restore to a different machine the Target client value must be specified within the parameter file
this is invoked using the -p switch

e.g.

backint -f restore -i -p

For example, if a restore of data was to be relocated from an orignal backup of
a NetVault Client entitled “SAP_Client_1” to the NetVault Client
“SAP_Clien
