1. Log on to the console on the AWS web portal

2. In the field Find Services type AWS Gateway and select Storage Gateway Menu

3. Create Gateway Menu

4. Gateway creation. In this menu you will select which type of Amazon service are you going to use (File Gateway, Volume Gateway or Tape Gateway VTL)

5. Gateway Plataform Selection. Allows us to select if the gateway is going to be hosted in our premises using and image already created for Vmware or HyperV or if it’s going to be hosted online on the Amazon EC2 environment. In this example we are going to be using the Vmware ESXi image. After downloading it to our environment we need to import it the template to the Vmware infrastructure.

6. Service Endpoint is how the communication is going to be performed from our Gateway to the Amazon services. Endpoint types: Public by using the IP of the gateway we just configured below for the VM or if we create a VPC (Virtual Private Gateway) hosted in AWS.


7. Activate Gateway
In the device type library select:
- Quest Netvault Backup 10.0 or 11.x or 12x Type Library is STK-L700
8. Configure Local Disks. If we are using a VM gateway (HyperV or Vmware) we have to add 2 local disks in our environment.
- Upload Buffer. 150GB minimum. You can configure up to 2 TiB of upload buffer capacity for each gateway.
- Cache Storage. 150GB minimum.

9. Configure logging. To have the log events in the AWS console.
B. Configuring Windows Server to Host Amazon AWS VTL Tape Drive

Windows Installation
To connect your VTL devices to a Windows client
- Start iscsicpl.exe.
- Start the Microsoft iSCSI initiator service.
- In the iSCSI Initiator Properties dialog box, choose the Discovery tab, and then choose the Discover Portal button.
- Provide the IP address of your tape gateway for IP address or DNS name. (The VM you just download and install on your network from Amazon AWS service or if it’s the one hosting online on the Amazon EC2 environment)
- Choose the Targets tab, and then choose Refresh. All 10 tape drives and the medium changer appear in the Discovered targets box. The status for the targets is Inactive.
- Choose the first device and connect it. You connect the devices one at a time.
- Connect all of the targets.
To verify and update the driver and provider
- On your Windows client, start Device Manager.
- Expand Tape drives, open the context (right-click) menu for a tape drive, and choose Properties.
- Choose Update Driver.
- In the Update Driver Software dialog box, choose Browse my computer for driver software.
- In the Update Driver Software dialog box, choose Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
- Choose the Sony TSL-A500C Autoloader driver otherwise drives won’t be able to be seen by Netvault if using the default driver provided.

To add the VTL devices
- In Quest NetVault Backup, choose Manage Devices in the Configuration tab.
- On the Manage Devices page, choose Add Devices.
- In the Add Storage Wizard, choose Tape library / media changer, and then choose Next.
- Choose the client machine that is physically attached to the library and choose Next to scan for devices.
- If devices are found, they are displayed. In this case, your medium changer is displayed in the device box.
- Choose your medium changer and choose Next. Detailed information about the device is displayed in the wizard.
- On the Add Tapes to Bays page, choose Scan For Devices, choose your client machine, and then choose Next. All your drives are displayed on the page. Quest NetVault Backup displays the 10 bays to which you can add your drives. The bays are displayed one at a time to add them to Netvault.
- Choose the drive you want to add to the bay that is displayed, and then choose Next.
- When your client machine appears, choose it, and then choose Next. The client machine can appear multiple times.
- When the drives are displayed, repeat steps 7 through 9 to add all the drives to the bays.
- In the Configuration tab, choose Manage devices and on the Manage Devices page, expand your medium changer to see the devices that you added.
