Title: Relocate vmware image to another ESX machine using the VCB Proxy (cos-less restore)
Date: 06/09
NV Version: All
OS Version: All
Descrption: Need to restore vm image taken on one ESX server to another newly added one.
Relocate vmware image to another ESX machine using the VCB Proxy (cos-less restore):
- Add this new ESX server using the 'Add Server' option of the VMware plugin on the VCB Porxy.
- The ESX server will now be browsable under the VCB Proxy machine in the vmware plugin on the server.
- To find the name of the datastore ssh onto esx server in question, go to vmfs/volumes. Here the datastore names can be viewed. Alternatively use the VMware Infrastructure Client > CLick the ESX server > Configuration > Storage.
This is the name that must be entered in the restore options when restoring to a different datastore. This is not browsable and must be entered exactly as it appears in the summary against the esx server in question in the vmware infrastructure client app.
An alternative resource pool can also be specified here if necessary. The name and location of the esx server if not the original the backup was taken from (and not shared esx using shared datastores) must also be specified here.
- If the new esx server is browsable from the vmware plugin on the VCB Proxy then in the Restore window do a restore relocating the saveset of the image to the new ESX server.
