Date: Sep 2008
NV Version: All NVBU
OS Version: All
Application version: Ontap 7.2.3, Ontap 7.3.1
Plugin version: All NDMP
Symptoms:
When adding an NDMP-attached library, an LTO-4 or LTO-5 tape drive cannot be seen as an NDMP device in drive selection tab.
On the filer, the “sysconfig –t” command sees the tape drive but reports it as unknown.
The TCF (tape control files) of Ontap 7.2.3 and below do not support LTO-4 drives. The TCF of Onstap 7.3.1 and below do not support LTO-5 drives. To resolve the problem, download the latest TCF file for your version of Ontap from the NetApp website and install it. If there is no TCF for your version of Ontap, you might need to upgrade the filer's operating system to a later version - please contact NetApp for that.
You can find a list of tape drives supported by NetApp, along with the minimum Ontap version required for their support at http://www.netapp.com/us/solutions/a-z/data-protection-devices.html
