Oracle Incremental Level 1 backups regularly complete successfully but do not show in the restore list.
The first Incremental Level 0 backups are still available to restore from but all successful Incremental Level 1 backups are missing.
Examining the logs and tracing the Incremental level 1 savesets, shows they all expired much before their configured backup lives.
This happens when Incremental Level 0 and Level 1s did not share the same selection set name.
If incremental backups use their own selection set, they will cease to be linked with the original full (incr0) and will have their own backup lives.
The very first Level 1 will follow the configured backup life, however when this first Level 1 backup expires, it will retire ALL Level 1s created after it, explaining why recent successful Level 1 backups disappear before time.
When creating Oracle Incremental Level 0 and 1s jobs, the same selection set used by the Level 0 (full) must be used by the Level 1s.
While in the case of Oracle RMAN, running Incremental Level 0 and 1s does not require any link, NVBU requires the full>Incremental relationship to be established to keep track of the full and its associated incremental jobs and to expire these incremental backups once the full retires.
