Cannot blank ANSI/ASF tapes using NVBU 10 or 11
Description

Since upgrading SmartClients to NVBU 10.x or 11.x, ANSI/ASF tapes previously used by HP Data Protector cannot be blanked by NetVault.
When attempting to blank such tapes the operation fails with:
Media 'I--OMN2' (XX600N5) in 'DRIVE 1:NV' is in use, cannot be blanked.
Using NVBU 9.2 all tapes can be blanked.
Cause

This issue has been confirmed as a defect in Bug 31284.
The issue is only met under the following conditions:
- All the ASF media have the same OMNI-2 label and therefore are indistinguishable to NetVault.
- The order of the library and drive performing the blank operation in the NetVault Device Tree is also important.
- And the presence of identical ASF tapes in more than one library controlled by NetVault.
Resolution

Workaround:
Tests reveal that it may be possible to blank ASF tapes using NV11.0 or 11.1 under the following conditions:
- If the library performing the blank operation is the FIRST in the device tree, then blanking one ASF media at a time should work.
- If the library device is NOT the first in the device tree, the blank operation will fail and you will need to open the door on the other library device to be able to BLANK an ASF tape in the current library (only one drive at a time)
The use of nvblankmedia may be helpful here as opposed to the WebUI.
Status:
Bug 31284 is scheduled to be fixed in NVBU version 11.2.
