This happened specifically on a Qualstar library, however the same scenario may present itself with a different manufacturer, depending on how the Control Path assignment is configured.
The Control Path is configured to go through the Drive on bay 1. After replacing Drive 1 due to a hardware failure, the Control Path didn't returned back to the Drive1.
A Control Path is the path for SCSI Medium Changer commands sent by a server to control a specific Library. A Control Path commonly runs through a single drive and only a single drive may have control of it. Depending on the manufacturer, different Control Path failover methods may be implemented.
If there’re multiple partitions on a Library, there’ll be a Control Path for each partition.
There're two approaches for this scenario.
OptionA:
1. Remove the Library from NetVault.
2. From the Library control panel, change the control path to run through a different Drive. This handled by the Library and not Netvault, if any questions or concerns arise around this please contact the Library provider for support.
3. Add back the Library to NetVault, both Drive and Medium Changer should show up properly now.
OptionB:
1. Remove the Library from NetVault.
2. From the Library control panel, change the control path to run through a different Drive. This handled by the Library and not Netvault, if any questions or concerns arise around this please contact the Library provider for support.
3. Re-assign the Control Path back to its previous setting.
4. Add back the Library to NetVault, both Drive and Medium Changer should show up properly now.
