Prerequisites for installing the Hyper-V Plugin.

Before installing Plug-in for Hyper-V, verify that the following prerequisites are met on the system designated as the Hyper-V Server:

• Install PowerShell and configure the execution policy: Before you can use Plug-in for Hyper-V, PowerShell must be installed on the Hyper-V Server and the execution policy must be set to RemoteSigned. You can install PowerShell from the Server Manager on the Hyper-V Server.
After you have installed it, run the following command from the PowerShell command prompt:

Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

• Install Integration Services: The Integration Services must be installed on the VM from the Hyper-V Server.

• Install NetVault Backup Server and Client software: At a minimum, the NetVault Backup Client software must be installed on the Hyper-V Server. For instructions on installing the NetVault Backup Client software and adding the Hyper-V Server as a Heterogeneous Client, see the NetVault Backup Installation Guide.

• Install NetVault Backup Client software on at least one node in a cluster: If you are using the plug-in in a cluster, install the NetVault Backup Client software on at least one node within the cluster.
That node ensures that all the VMs in the cluster are protected.

• Install NetVault Backup Client software on each node that manages local VMs and VMs that reside on an SMB: If you are using a designated node (or nodes) to manage local VMs or to manage VMs located on an SMB file server, install the NetVault Backup Client software on that node (or nodes).

NOTE:

• Only install the Hyper-V Plugin on one Node with in cluster and configure it. The Hyper-V Plugin will then have a new Cluster tab where you are able to see all the Nodes in that cluster (You can see local VMs as well as Cluster Nodes and all VMs in those clusters as well. The cluster nodes seen are only visual indicators of the existing cluster node names).

• The maximum amount of streams are three within this release.

• VSS snapshots are done serially to reduce VSS problems that customers may experience.

• Using the “Revive Virtual Machine” restore option will restore the VM, but if the VM doesn’t exist, the restore job will instantiate a new VM on the host as well. If the VM was part of a cluster, then the restore job will also make sure that the VM is part of that cluster.
The restore job restores the vhdx file to the Working Directory then copies it to where it needs to go and will use the configuration from the archive to instantiate the VM.
It is therefore important that adequate free space is available in the Working Directory and adequate free space where the VM is going to go.
There is the option to delete it from the Working Directory after the restore job has finished.

• You can no longer perform file-level backups with this version of the Hyper-V Plugin i.e. only image backups. If you wish to perform file-level backups, then install a NetVault Client on a VM and use the Filesystem Plugin.

• Additionally if you would like to restore a VM to a differently named VM, unfortunately it is not possible in this release.
