This is not a NetVault or VMware problem it is a known issue with VSS application snapshots and ESXi/ESX 4.1 and later. See VMware KB below that explains the problem further

If the VM has a database application such as SQL or oracle etc. the backup may not have a consistent database backup and we would recommend installing NetVault client on the VM, installing the relevant NetVault plugin for the database and running the application aware backup of the database.
