How to Configure ESX for Virtual Standby (4035378)

This article describes how to configure virtual standby on an ESX server.

Follow the steps below to configure virtual standby on an ESX server.

To configure virtual standby on an ESX server

1. Login as a root at the console of the ESX Server, press ALT+F1.
2. To activate root access SSH in ESX Server, open nano (text editor, easy to use…) or use vi.#cd /etc/ssh#nano sshd_config .
3. Navigate to the line saying PermitRootLogin No and change it to Yes.
4. Type then CTRL+x to exit. On the prompt type Y to save the modified file.
5. Restart the sshd service#service sshd restart.
6. Open firewall ports required for SSH#esxcfg-firewall -e sshServer#esxcfg-firewall -e sshClient .
7. Enable ports required for Replay#esxcfg-firewall -o 9002,tcp,in,Replay#esxcfg-firewall -o 9002,tcp,out,Replay .
8. Restart the vmware-hostd process#service mgmt-vmware restart .
