When using the processing wizards such as SQL, Active Directory, etc., is it possible to only select certain migrated users and process the options/permissions selected for only those users and ignore all others?
It is important to understand that selecting one user will process permissions for this user only, but it will not prevent the tool from scanning the entire AD or SQL.
To process (update the permissions for) only certain migrated objects with the SQL & Active Directory processing wizards please create the task you wish to run. After the task has been completed do not run it immediately. Under the "resource processing" section of the Migration Manager console, highlight your task, then in the right side window select the "select objects to process resources". This will load a window that will allow you to select individual objects for processing.
Note: This selection process is known as creating a “custom map”. The creation of a custom map does NOT affect which resources (e.g. AD OUs, SQL databases etc.) are scanned by the respective Wizard – this is controlled separately within each Wizard. In the specific case of ADPW, even when only one user or a group of users is selected in a custom map file, ADPW still needs to enumerate the domain to determine if the objects included in the custom map have any association/link to any other objects in the domain - this is expected behavior. You can minimize the objects scanned in the domain by segregating the objects picked in a separate OU or change the scope of the ADPW task properties to a specific OU(s), then only the objects in those OUs will be scanned. NO changes will be made to the scanned objects unless ADPW finds an object that needs to be updated.
NOTE that this custom mapping procedure will be used on all future processing for this job. If you later wish to process all migrated objects or a different set of migrated objects then simply click the "delete custom map" selection from the right task pad pane.
ADPW can be compare with RUM. You can migrate only one user or in RUM you can use the Custom Map and select only one user, but Vmover will scan all files on the file server and will update permissions for this user. ADPW will do the same, when processing the AD. If you select one user it will scan the entire AD (if the scope is not limited in the wizard configuration).
