During the initial installation of the Quest Migration Manager software, there is often some confusion regarding where to place the console. Should it be in the source domain or target domain and what are the requirements?
The following items should be considered when determining where to place the Quest Migration Manager console:
-The console is by default thelicense server. The registry of this console will be accessed by the Migration Manager agents to acquire license information; therefore, a reliable registry connection will be needed.
-The console is used to push out agent installation files to all Exchange servers and directory synchronization servers that will be involved in the migration; therefore, communication to source and target environments is extremely important.
-The console is used for all configuration of agents, the setting up of agents, and the control of the migration; therefore, the hardware must be reliable and up to the task. Please consult the Migration Manager Quick Start Guide for a more detailed list of hardware, permissions and supported platforms.
While there is no specific requirement to have console either on the source or target, for most migration projects target is selected as the most convenient location.
