Create Inspect SGA Groups

This topic focuses on information that may be unfamiliar to you. It does not include all step and field descriptions.

To create a group

  1. Select the Inspect SGA tab in the main window.

  2. Click beside the Group list in the main window.

  3. Review the following for additional information:

    Group Enter a name for the group.
    Connection

    Click to select an existing connection for the group.

    Tip: Click to create a new connection. See Connect to the Database for more information.

    Tip: Right-click a group and select Delete to delete the group.

To use Inspect SGA

  1. Select the Inspect SGA tab in the main window.
  2. Click beside the Group list and select a group.

    Tip: Click to create a new group. See Create Inspect SGA Groups for more information.

  3. Click . The Add Inspect SGA Job wizard displays.

  4. Specify SQL collection criteria. Review the following for additional information:

    General Information Page

    Description

    Job Type

    Select the type of Inspect SGA job to add:

    • Executed SQL from SQL area—Retrieves executed SQL statements from the SQL Area in the Oracle SGA.
    • Currently running SQL—Retrieves currently running SQL statements from the Open Cursor system view in the Oracle SGA.

    Note: Select the Automatically send Job to Batch Optimize SQL when finished retrieving checkbox to optimize the job in Batch Optimize SQL. See Use Batch Optimize for more information.

    Collecting Criteria Page

    Description

    Collecting Criteria

    Select one of the following criteria to use for collecting SQL:

    • Top n SQL—Retrieves the number of SQL entered in the corresponding field.
    • Top n% of the SQL—Retrieves a percentage of the SQL in the SGA based on the number entered in the corresponding field.
    • All SQL—Retrieves all SQL from the SGA.

    Run time statistics to use for collecting SQL

    Select the statistics to filter SQL retrieved in ascending or descending order.

    Note: This page is only available if you select Executed SQL from SQL area on the General Information page.

    Session Criteria Page

    Description

    Monitor By

    Select one of the following criteria for the sessions to monitor:

    • Entire instance—Collects currently running SQL on the database instance associated with the group you selected.
    • Session ID (SID)—Collects currently running SQL with the SID values you select.
    • Connection identity—Collects currently running SQL with the identity information you select.

    Note: This page is only available if you select Currently running SQL on the General Information page.

    SQL Filter Page

    Description

    SQL Type

    Select one of the following options for SQL types to collect:

    • Select SQL Type—Collects the SQL statement types you select.
    • All SQL—Collects all SQL statement types that meet the collecting or session criteria you specified.

    Tip: Select the Ignore Oracle Internal SQL checkbox to ignore statements executed by the SYS and SYSTEM schemas.

    Collection Time Page

    Description

    Collection Time

    Select one of the following collection time options:

    • Start collecting immediately—The collection process automatically begins after you close the wizard.
    • Start collecting when you click the Inspect button—The SQL collection process begins after you click .
    • Start collecting at a specific time—The SQL collection process begins at the time you specify after you click .

    Note: These options are only available when you select Executed SQL from SQL area on the General Information page.

    Monitoring Time

    Specify the start time, start date, end date, duration, and interval for session monitoring.

    Note: This option is only available when you select Currently running SQL on the General Information page.

    Statistics Page

    Description

    Statistics

    Add or remove SQL statistics to retrieve with the Inspect SGA job.

    Tip: See V$SQL in the Oracle Database Reference 11g Release 2 (11.2) for descriptions of the SQL statistics.

  5. Click Finish to save your options and close the wizard. If you selected to start SQL collection immediately, the collection process begins after you close the wizard.

  6. If you did not specify to start collection immediately, select the job in the Job List pane and click to start the inspection process now or at the specified time.

    Tip: Click the arrow beside and select Inspect Now to start the inspection process immediately. Click to stop a currently running job before starting a new job.

Manage Jobs (Inspect SGA)

Inspect SGA displays jobs you create using the Add Inspect SGA Jobs wizard in the Job List pane by groups. You can use the Job List pane to manage jobs for a selected group.

Note: This topic focuses on information that may be unfamiliar to you. It does not include all step and field descriptions.

To manage a job

  1. Select the Inspect SGA tab in the main window.

  2. Click beside the Group list and select a group.

    Tips:

    • Click beside the Group list to create a new group.

    • Right-click a job in the Job List pane and select Inspect to collect execution statistics.

    • Right-click a job and select Delete Jobs | option to delete jobs.

To view SQL statistics

  1. Select the Inspect SGA tab in the main window.
  2. Click beside the Group list and select a group.
  3. Select a job in the Job List pane.

    Tip: Right-click the header row in the SQL Statistics pane and select Column Chooser to add or remove statistics. See V$SQL in the Oracle Database Reference 11g Release 2 (11.2) for descriptions of the SQL statistics.
